Applying For Aid

Applying for Financial Aid

File a FAFSA

The FAFSA is available on October 1 for the next academic year. You should file your FAFSA as early as possible for maximum aid consideration.

Review your offer

Once we receive your FAFSA, we will review it for accuracy and assemble your aid offer. You will be notified, via email when your offer for the year is complete and when changes are made.

  • New students - You will receive a copy of your offer letter via email.
Complete verification, if selected

About 1/3 of aid applicants are selected for verification. You may be selected by the Department of Education or by the DeHart Technical school.

Complete additional requirements, as requested

You will be notified, in writing, of the additional requirements and documents needed to complete your aid application. Please submit only what is requested of you and in a timely manner.

Most students are offered loans but it is up to you determine which loans to use.

Verification

During verification, the Financial Aid Officer will review and confirm the accuracy of the information provided on your FAFSA.

You will be required to submit documentation for the information listed (or not listed) on the FAFSA.

Documentation can include (but is not limited to):

You will be notified by our office, in person (mail or email), if you are selected for verification. We will also inform you of what forms and documents are required. Please submit only what we request.

If you are selected for verification, your financial aid offer is considered an estimate until verification is completed for the year. Your offer may change as a result of verification.

If we do not receive the required documentation, you will not be eligible for federal, state and some institutional aid. Verification is not required if you will only receive a Parent or Graduate PLUS Loan and/or an Unsubsidized Direct Student Loan since those loans are not based on need.

However, you cannot choose to avoid verification by choosing to borrow an Unsubsidized Direct Student Loan if you are eligible for a Subsidized Direct Student Loan.
