Rod DeHart Scholarship

This program was established in honor of the Founder and Former President of DeHart Technical School. Funding for the Rod DeHart Scholarship program is provided through the school’s contributions.

Award Criteria

Students who are considered to have a high likelihood of success of completing the program and entering the HVAC/R or Facilities Maintenance field AND a justified need for tuition/program cost assistance will be given the highest consideration.

Students must possess a minimum GPA and attendance of 80% at the time of the award.

The maximum award value is $5,000. Awards will vary based on the student’s specific situation, in compliance with any Title IV funding 19 and cannot be used to exceed the total cost of attendance. A maximum of 6 awards will be granted in a calendar year.

Selection Process

Students interested in applying for the Rod DeHart Scholarship should meet with the Financial Aid Officer and receive a scholarship application form. Completed applications will be evaluated by DTS professional and instructional staff. Award recipients will be notified by the School Director.

Recipients will have the scholarship proceeds disbursed to their tuition account after 80% of the program is completed.

Award Amount

State Grant (Cal Grant)

A Cal Grant award is money for college which students will not need to repay. To qualify, students must meet specific eligibility and financial requirements, as well as any GPA requirements.

Eligibility is based on the student’s FAFSA responses, their verified Cal Grant GPA, their residency, and whether they’re a recent high school graduate or not. Technical and Vocational Schools of less than 2 years in length are eligible for 2 types of Cal Grants:

Cal Grant B requires a minimum GPA of 2.0 and provides a living allowance for first-year students to help with college costs. The grant is primarily awarded to students with disadvantaged backgrounds.

Cal Grant C assists students with the costs of a technical or career education. The grant is only available for up to two years - the length of a technical/certification program.

Although a GPA is not required to apply, students are still encouraged to submit it as it will only help their chances of receiving the award.

In order to accept a Cal Grant award, you must log into the Web Grants 4 Students website after receiving your California Aid Report (CAR).

Chafee Grant

The California Chafee Grant is a financial grant for current or former California foster youth to help pay for college or career and technical training.

The grant money can also be used to pay for childcare, rent and transportation while you’re in school. The best part: Chafee grants don’t have to be paid back.
